Did you know that words can bring life? I think we don’t realize how much power words carry. If it’s the written word or spoken words, it is very powerful. The word of God always brings life into the very moment we read it. We may not always fully comprehend what it means at times, but God will speak to us through it. All the questions we have can be found in the Word. But i’m going to focus on what kind of power actual words have, whether its the words you read in the word(BIBLE) or just any other words you say, read, write, hear, etc…

We’ve heard it growing up, “think before you speak”. I think this concept should very well still apply today and not only what we speak about others, but what we speak over ourselves. I feel that quote should be changed to faith before you speak. Once you tap into the one and only source, your faith will rise up and speak life rather than defeat.
The problem is we have more of a tendency to be the hardest on ourselves. We are our own worst critic. The words you speak is the words you become. Our very own words can either bless our lives or curse our lives. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean that life is always going to be great and that you’re not going to have any problems. But why dwell on the negative circumstances? What does that actually do? We should not be using our words to dwell on the bad, but be using it to change our situations. Whenever we are faced with a complaining voice, we should choose the other voice. It’s easier said than done right? The fact is, it actually takes more effort to complain than to just let go and let God deal with it. God is our source and when we tap into the source, there is no way we will ever run dry.

I use to speak with words of defeat when it came to every area of my life and i didn’t realize how much negative words can take a toll on the outcome of what actually happens, what i end up doing, how i treat others and how i ultimately viewed myself. Whenever i focused on speaking words of defeat, i would always get defeated. It would be an endless cycle because this was what i would speak over myself. “I’m not good enough” “I can’t do it” “I suck at this” “I never win” If you already speak like you’re defeated before anything even happens, there’s no surprise when you do get defeated.

As believers, we cannot continue to speak words of defeat. The more we do, it taps into our fears and takes away from our faith. We will start listening to the doubts that creep in and start speaking in the language of doubt rather than the language of faith.

When we continue to walk out in the old dispensation when God has taken us into a new one, we cannot attain peace. It’s like driving ahead with your eyes closed and your gears are set in reverse. Eventually you are going to crash because you cannot see anything. You start to train yourself to think that you’re driving ahead but your actually in reverse. When you do this, you have a tendency to speak words of defeat when you go the wrong way and make the wrong turn. The problem is, you’re so busy driving that you have forgotten that you are not the one who’s supposed to be driving! God knows more about whats up ahead and He wants to breathe new life, new hope, new words into your heart about who you are and about people around you. Many times we miss these words of life because we fall into negativity, words of defeat and give up too soon and drive with our eyes closed.

I believe that when we speak words of defeat over ourselves, we close our own doors. The things that are up ahead are just waiting for your to believe in them so that God can activate it. Words are powerful, don’t let your words be one of defeat and negativity that will only lead you to miss the open doors right infront of you. It will stop you for being who God called you to be. A person of great faith.

Are you a person of fear or a person of faith? Are you a person who speaks words of defeat or words of life? You will know which person speaks faith and life because that will be the person who is filled with Joy and Peace no matter what the circumstance is. I choose that.

A new friend,a new car, new shoes, a new team, these are all considered as recent developments of something being made or created into being. Usually, we get something new because we’re tired of the old, replacing the old because it was broken and even just because we want something new.

When we look at the term “new” in this point of view, it makes you wonder why people still see their old self reflected off their new self. You were tired of that old self, you replaced it with something better and now you’ve received something that will always satisfy you, but you keep looking back. The Bible says that when you believe in Him, you are a new creation. The old has passed and the new has come. You are no longer your old self, you have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the cross for your sins. When we accept Christ into our lives, we receive a new identity because we are born-again. In the same way you throw away old items and replace them with newer and better ones, this is what Christ did with our past. When we accepted Him, He threw it away.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come.”

The problems we tend to have is the part where “WE” have to personally throw it away as well.  Jesus Christ may have threw it away for us, but now we have to walk out in that new identity and stop referring to our old one. We no longer belong to the past and to the world, but we belong to God. We are no longer imprisoned by our faults and sins, but imprisoned by our hopes and faith in God. It’s simply not enough to just say it and not act on it. You shouldn’t just know the truth but be the truth and act on the truth. We should be walking out in the identities that we are a new creation, we are redeemed, we belong to God, We are dead to sin and alive in Christ. Freedom is ours and we need to stop victimizing ourselves whenever something gets hard. We should not be shaken by what shakes the world. When everything shakes, we should be what remains because we are more than conquerors.

Once you’ve established that as your identity, it will never leave you. That new identity doesn’t stop there, but God is continuously bringing us into new levels. Sometimes, new levels are hard to see because of the hard moments, the moments where we ask God, “Why is this happening to me?” But you know what, God is allowing these moments to happen because we are strong. He is also showing us that we are not in control and to continue to walk with Him. It’s not about our own strength, but of Gods that everything will be made clear to us in His timing. The times of hardships is actually a time where we should rest in His presence and rejoice. When we aren’t shaken by the natural circumstances, we are able to see in the spirit. It becomes clear that God is going to use these moments and turn it around for the good of His people. Who knows us better than ourselves? God does. I believe it’s in these times that God is breaking me and putting me through certain things to just make me stronger and to prepare my heart and my mind for something else. That something else is not always what i want or what i expect it to be, but it will be something better.

Realizing that i cannot control everything has been hard, but i know Gods working in me because the peace i feel even when in the natural it is uncertain is enough for me. It shows me how much i believe that Gods plans are better for me than that of my own even though i don’t know what it is . Stepping out of my comfort zone in doing things i’m not accustom to during the last couple months has shown me more about leaning on Him. If i knew i was able to do it myself, i wouldn’t need a reason to trust in Him. But its in the times of “breaking” that God establishes something new in me, something better than the old, something that is in its perfect timing even if i can’t see it yet. That is when i become a new person again and it goes on and on… Christianity is not supposed to be confined in comfort and based on rules, but one that is not stagnant and continuously desiring more than what is presented to us. Sometimes we stop it from happening because we don’t see the “breaking moments” as a blessing and a setup for new levels.

Planning is something that a lot of people do. You plan what to eat, plan what to wear, plan your next vacation and plan your future: What school will i go to? What job do i want to get? And the list goes on…

That person was definitely me. I liked organizing my life, the things i do and my future. I had this 5 year plan to basically fulfill all the goals i had for myself. In the end to become a Professeur one day and thinking that would make me content and happy. The whole plan got shifted to an even bigger plan that i wasn’t even aware of. This is the difference with plans, it was something that i was constantly leaning on myself for. The fact that i was laying out a map of what i wanted to do in the next 5 years of my life was pushing away anything that got in the way of that. I was thinking it would make me better, but instead it just limited me from more that i can do because i was putting myself in a box.  I wasn’t even leaving room for God to take a hold of my life that when things didn’t go the way i planned, i would be burdened and disappointed.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t plan things or that planning is bad, but i put too much weight on them making them seem like it was the “ideal” and that i would only be happy if i could do it. My success was not based on fulfilling those goals, i already succeeded by realizing there is more to me than what i made myself out to be.  I was striving to do so well in my life so that i can feel like a winner when i was already a winner. That may sound cheesey, but for the first time in a long time i’m actually happy where i am in my life and its not because i got honours in school or that i had a good game or that i have a good job, but because i am actually just happy with who i am. I am not closer to that 5 year plan, but i’m okay with it and i’m okay with the fact that God has been putting dreams in me instead of plans. The reason that i use to plan so much was because i would think i lacked in ability to just do things well like other people and if i want to get somewhere in life, i would need to plan it out and at least be good at that.

The difference with dreams is it’s something that requires faith for me to believe in  it. It’s not about my functional aspects and my great ability to plan out my life, but it’s about having more faith in myself and far above else is to have greater faith in the God Almighty who can make everything that may seem impossible, possible. I’m learning more and more that God can use anyone at anytime for any purpose.

God called  Abram when he was 75 years old and told him to just leave and go to Canaan. When Abram was 99 years old, despite the lack of faith that Abram may have had at this time, God re-affirms his promise to him and they may seem like laughable promises, but the promises of God are not supposed to make sense. We are not the ones who are going to carry them out, it’s God who carries them out through us. God doesn’t send us out, to be abanadoned. He sends us out with the right timing in knowing that He will carry out His promise to the end.

Just like God used Moses, He was not simply walking out in his own power. Moses may have had some doubts and feelings of inadequacies but everything he needed, God provided. The promise and dreams that God had was bigger than Moses, it was for the suffering of the people in Egypt.

Whatever dreams you have in you, pray about it because i believe that God didn’t just place them in your heart to be ignored. Even if it seems impossible to fulfill, if it is God’s will and promise to you, He can make it happen. It’s not about us, It’s bigger than us and sometimes we need to step away from our comfort zones and our plans to actually fulfill our dreams, our destiny

By: Arabelle Samonte

In the beginning God created
the heavens and the earth
The spirit of God was there
It was made perfect in birth
With His beauty in the air

All He created was good in His sight
Everything was seen as just right
God created man in His own image
In the image of God He created them
The image that is bright as a gem

We are given Dominion over the fish
And the birds of the heavens
Then God blessed it all on Seven

All was done and it was good
The sun in the sky
The birds that fly
The flowers i see through my eyes
All the children walking by…

What do you see?

All the beauty that shines
All the amazing kinds
The astonishing signs
All the miracles that refine

What do you see?

Do you see it all as good?
Have you been doing all you could?
God’s opening our eyes to see
to live our lives being free

You see, you are good
see yourself as God would
The enemy has no way
When God guides your day

Walk out and see
The promises that lie in Me
I will make your name great
I will make you forget your mistakes
I’ve given you a clean slate
through my son Jesus Christ
Where he paid the price
to make everything right

Because you believe
You can surely achieve
When you openly receive

I give you promises
Bless those who Bless you
Because i have made you brand new

And will make you a great nation

Just go forward
and don’t look back
because in you there is no lack
I have chosen you to deliver
to walk out of that wild river

Into my hands
walking out my plans
Fear not for i am your shield
Your reward shall be great
You just have to wait

Walk before me and be blameless
And i will establish greatness
As i keep my promises to you
For i see you as good
Do you?

What do you see?
